چکیده

Accurate approaches to aboveground biomass (AGB) estimation are required support appraisal of the effectiveness land use measures, which seek protect grazing-adapted grasslands atop Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP). This methodological study assesses one commonly used visible band vegetation index, Red Green Blue Vegetation Index (RGBVI), obtained from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), in estimating AGB timely and accurately at local scale, seeking improve accuracy by taking into account situ collected information on disturbed grassland. Particular emphasis is placed upon mapping quantification areas grazing (simulated via mowing) plateau pika (Ochotona curzoniae) that have led emergence bare ground. The initial model involving only RGBVI performed poorly underestimating high around 10% overestimating low about 10%. was modified mowing intensity ratio ground metrics. former almost doubled R2 = 0.44 0.81. However, this modification caused be overestimated 38 19 g m−2 for 2018 2019, respectively. Although further metrics improved slightly 0.88, it markedly reduced overestimation values. It recommended incorporated micro-scale AGB, together with metrics, especially severely meadows a sizable portion

Hyperspectral remote sensing for seasonal estimation of aboveground biomass in Swiss grassland habitats

Dry grassland sites are amongst the most species rich habitats of Central Europe. In Switzerland, they are home to a large number of plant and animal species that are classified as endangered or threatened. A key component for designing optimal and effective management schemes ensuring the sustainability of these ecosystems, is knowledge of their biomass production. In this study we explored th...

Estimation of aboveground biomass using airborne LiDAR data

In this study a semi-empirical model that was originally developed for stem volume estimation is used for aboveground biomass (AGB) estimation. The semi-empirical model is based on the relative heights of first echo LiDAR point cloud data and assumes a linear relationship between AGB and canopy volume. However, the usage of point cloud data leads to a computationally demanding task when process...

MODIS Based Estimation of Forest Aboveground Biomass in China

Accurate estimation of forest biomass C stock is essential to understand carbon cycles. However, current estimates of Chinese forest biomass are mostly based on inventory-based timber volumes and empirical conversion factors at the provincial scale, which could introduce large uncertainties in forest biomass estimation. Here we provide a data-driven estimate of Chinese forest aboveground biomas...
